Sorry about that Emacs post

I’ve been feeling sheepish about that last Emacs post. I wrote it when I was frustrated and used language I regret (“TRAMP sucks,” etc.). My apologies. I toned it down.

Update: A thoughtful reader emailed me expressing concern. They worried that I might have written this apology because I’d been harassed for expressing my opinion. Thankfully, that’s not the case.

As I explained in reply, I felt apologetic for somewhat of an opposite and perhaps ironic reason: the Emacs users whom I’ve known and learned from have been gentle, wise creatures, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with me freely without any trace of dogma or judgment. If anything, they made fun of themselves and Emacs while also espousing the Emacs way of life.

So I felt kinda jerky for having shaken my fist emotionally at Emacs, and perhaps by association, the lifestyle and opinions of these folks I’ve admired over the years.

Plus, I don’t fancy myself a “hot take” kind of guy. That’s not the personal brand I’m shooting for.
